Site Investigation | Optimizing Pile Length for Small Steel Buildings through Low-Noise On-Site Surveys and Neighbor Comparisons
By merging neighboring ground data comparison and on-site sounding surveys for the construction of a steel building on a narrow site, we will achieve an environmentally conscious pile length design that prevents excessive reinforcement.
In the construction of urban steel frame buildings, the excessive consumption of materials due to over-designed pile foundations, as well as the environmental impact from noise, vibration, and exhaust emissions during construction, have become significant ESG issues. Particularly in narrow sites with strict delivery restrictions, traditional boring surveys using heavy machinery are difficult, leading to overly cautious and excessive pile designs that increase environmental impact and costs. The environmentally conscious ground solution proposed by Geotech is an integrated survey technology that references and analyzes nearby boring data accumulated in a wide-area database while employing automatic ram sounding tests using compact self-propelled machines. This space-saving and low-noise compact equipment measures impact penetration (Nd value) to a depth of 30 meters and scientifically identifies the position and strength of the bearing layer using a high-precision N value conversion formula. By optimizing pile lengths based on this evidence, the amount of steel pipe pile materials used can be significantly reduced, thereby minimizing CO2 emissions associated with material transport and construction. This approach simultaneously promotes safety and decarbonization, greatly contributing to the enhancement of the value of environmentally conscious building plans.
